DESCRIPTION

The old mills are historical and cultural heritage relevant to the value they have to tell and preserve the rural world. Once the mills were essential for the processing of cereals that the farmers cultivate in their fields, primarily to support the family. Not only wheat, but also spelt, oat, rye, barley.
In the territory of Gualdo, which is in the province of Macerata but whose economy and territoriality is largely aimed at the valley that looks from the Sibillini Mountains to Monte Conero, rises the Mill Brunforte. The construction is made of hewn sandstone typical of the place, is in the shape of the tower, with drawbridges, corbels, machicolations and bombardiere on all four sides. On the ground floor, all in one room with a barrel vault, there is the mill with the millstones and the wooden equipment still in place. Internally it is still present in part a oak-wood shutter, which slides vertically on two side channels. The mill, fortified by Gualdesi in 1512, took on the appearance of a high crenellated tower with corbels and trap doors, reaching a total height on the north side of about 18-19 metres; the outer walls were doubled and have the thickness of two metres.
