In Jesi they produce leather accessories, decorations on glass, and work iron and wood. These days, they no longer breed silkworms or manufacture silk, though the numerous spinning mills and farmhouses with dovecote present in the territory remain as evidence of the past. There are still several shops in town which guarantee the production of artistic handicraft strictly respecting tradition. The handicraft and the conservation of the tradition of manual skill can still be found in the bordering areas, such as the municipality of Maiolati Spontini, where they keep alive, for example, the tradition of wood carving, leaf gilding, lacquering with terre, to bring personalised frames to life, reproductions of old frames, furniture, and painted and decorated furnishings complements, gildings and interior decorations, with the same air and passion as in the old workshops. The sector of preservative restoration of artworks remains active, on different objects such as paintings on canvas and wooden boards, wooden products and mural paintings. Moie also hosts a small bookbinding workshop, where, for 30 years, the tradition of competent manual skill has allowed a shape to be given to every idea, to repair or create books, with the handcrafted care given generously throughout the production: the sheets are stitched togheter with needle and thread (“bound” indeed); the cover is made with cardboard covered by materials that can be very different, from imitation leather to canvas, for example. Finally, they are completed by the golden or silver touch of a hot press, which impresses on the back of each volume the title, the author, and everything necessary to indicate their content. Bookbinding, as well as other handicrafts, also "binds" (ideally and practically) the present to the past.
