DESCRIPTION

One of the sectors that traditionally characterizes the industrial fabric of the province of Ancona is textile-clothing including weaving, finishing, manufacturing of knitwear articles and garment packaging. Areas with a more marked specialization in this sector are Filottrano and Santa Maria Nuova, and the area around the municipality of Ostra and which includes the territories of Ostra Vetere, Belvedere Ostrense, Corinaldo, Ripe and Castelcolonna, touching therefore also the Vallesina. The history of the clothing business in the municipality of Filottrano represents a classic example of the evolution of the sector in the Marche. The fame of Filottrano in the world, and in particular in the sector of male fashion descends from the initiative of a pioneer, Franco Carbonari, who in the Fifties moved the first steps in the sector of textile industry in the overview of a local economy that was based on agriculture. From the Sixties the still renowned today name of the Girombelli family was linked to Franco Carbonari's name. This allowed a change in direction for the local economy towards industrialization and specialization in the clothing sector. Today the productive reality of Filottrano can count on medium-sized high quality industries, and on a thick network of small workshops that act as a support for the wide industrial universe. The “Made in Filottrano” brand projects the town in the overview both of high fashion and of Casual. Characterized for decades by the production of wool blend, the productive-manufacturing sector of Santa Maria Nuova is now known for its production of garments and knitwear, that supports the production in the machinist sector. Although temporarily not visible to the public, in the territory there is the wool factory Zannini. It has been in a state of disuse for many years now but still remains intact regarding machinery and structure. It is an excellent example of industrial archaeology and it is preparing to become the protagonist of a requalification project as museum, auditorium and seat of young business initiatives such as coworking.
