DESCRIPTION

The prevalence of typical arable agricultural uses of mechanized agriculture along the coastal area and the coastal hills, is balanced by the large reservoir of naturalness represented by the system of Sibillini Mountains, in which prevail wooded territories and fields, more or less fragmented by meadows and pastures. The small niche of biodiversity evident between the territories of Smerillo and Montefalcone acts as a hinge between the mountainous area and the medium river valleys. Here emerges the mosaic of agricultural uses typical of the Marche countryside.
One of the most widespread and deeply rooted in the valley is undoubtedly the honey. The Marche have always been a region at the forefront in beekeeping so much so that at the end of the 19th century, was built the beehive type of the Marche which allowed, with the standard measure of the nest and supers, to perform maintenance and breeding interventions more easily than in the past. In 1903, was born in Osimo, in the province of Ancona, the FAI (Italian beekeeping federation). There are also numerous publications on the subject made in the Marche between the 19th and 20th centuries.
The most common honey is the mixed flower but are also produced excellent one-flower honeys who find a significant appreciation in the market among which should be mentioned honey of: acacia, chestnut, sunflower, sainfoin and honeydew.
In high hilly area no less important is the presence of chestnut, "do not forget me" (Myosotis) and thyme, associated with legumes.
