DESCRIPTION

The Marche are characterized by the heterogeneity of the ceramic productions, which flourish in medieval times and develop similarly to painting and sculpture, drawing inspiration from it. The pottery handicraft is a feature however centuries-old in the province of Pesaro and Urbino which boasts a production of extraordinary merit, with schools and crafts that are handed down for centuries. Arabesques, cornucopias, emblems of ancient families are the typical motifs of this decorative art, yellow and turquoise are the predominant colours of manufacturing. The fame of the ceramics produced in the Urbino’s territory, as in the ancient town of Castel Durante, reached in time a dimension and an international level. The tools in terracotta and decorated ceramics are not touched by industrialization, they are still in their most authentic version. Major collections or collections of ceramics in the Marche are exhibited in the museums of the town that were important centres of production: Urbania, Urbino, Pesaro.
