"Grabs the Frog" courtesy of Fermignano town

The Palio of the frog is held on the first Sunday after Easter. It was born with the establishment of the Municipal Council of Fermignano, which for centuries had been employed by the Municipality of Urbino. The inhabitants of the "Castle" and "Villas", to celebrate the event on the Sunday after Easter called "Sunday in Albis" [in albis (vestibus), literally translated, means white (robes)], they indulge in spontaneous folk celebrations consisting sack races, breaking of the pots, greasy pole, race of frogs in a wheelbarrow. Dopo a long period of splendour followed the decline and then oblivion as long as the tradition goes off completely. In 1966 the Association Pro Loco in order to revive to the present generations the climate of the festivities of the time, restores the race considered the most original, the race of frogs in a wheelbarrow, framing it in the laws of a regulation and giving it the official name "Palio of the Frog".
